Fancied doing something away from the norm today (no change there then!!) , so ran a short 6.6km tempo run - except I decided to wear the 10kg weight vest from citygym glasgow. Wow - what a feeling! This is the first time I have ever ran with a weight vest and it certainly changes things! After getting used to the initial weight difference I then began to open the legs out. Quickly realised that I could not mid-foot strike as my stride rate shortened dramatically. This then had an affect later in the run where my heels began to hurt - this was also compounded by wearing a race shoe with not much support. In terms of my CV reaction I thought it was a great way of training and I don't think I did that bad with km splits of just under 5min. not bad in terms of carrying another 10kg!!
Gonna try it again at some point and perhaps build up the distance!

add in some 54 celcius heat, limited water, sandstorms, snakes, spiders and 250km for 7 days and you're up for the Marathon des Sables matey!
