dominique - 0/365 - ready to get started??

Hi I am Dominique and have been persuaded to join TC's Run365Challenge. I am apprehensive but also looking forward to it! Unfortunatley, I have had a few setbacks before it even starts!

My trustworthy Garmin watch broke last week and I am awaiting a new one - looks like it will be the end of this week before I get it - so I may not be able to get started on 1st November :(

Have also been having a few niggles - nothing serious but it will mean that I will have to make sure that as well as the running I also do lots of stretching and strengthening exercises- this is something I am sure lots of us are guilty of overlooking!

Haven't yet decided on how far I'll do each day - think TC suggested 5K. I think I might set myself a minimum time I have to run for each day.

Fingers crossed I won't have to wait too long to get started!

Tony Day 11/365 - Run along the clyde/forth canal then back via kelvin way (again!)

Great little run today along the clyde and forth canal from maryhill along to where it crosses the river Kelvin. Recruited the help of one of my oldest friends Matthew Hunter today to break the boredom!
Matt has just recently qualified as a Personal trainer and is looking forward to becoming a very good trainer indeed!
We chewed the fat on things like life and business and the training that we love doing so much. Tried to get him involved in this challenge but after only recently coming back from a horrible calf re-attachment its better for him to be taking the running a little easy!!!
Looking forward to getting out with him again!
Had to have a massive refuel this weekend as beginning to understand the amount of energy needed each day! Good time to visit mum and load up on some carbs!!!

Its nearly time for our runners to start!!

It's Monday the 31st of October 2011 and tomorrow marks day 1 for our intrepid run365challenge runners!
Tony Curtis is already underway and will relay all of his thoughts and experiences of the challenge to the other athletes. The run365challenge blog will act as the record and sounding board for all of the runners and you can keep posted of all that goes on throughout this massive challenge! If you would like to get involved in taking part in the run365challenge then get in touch with tony at tonycurtis@tcfitness.co.uk and let him know what minimum distance you are willing to run per day!
Looking forward to seeing the details from the first day from Ben Buckle, Dominique Somers, Peter Collins and Claire McLean!
Happy running everyone!!

Tony Day 10/265 - Pollok Park Loop

Now that I have left greens gym in Finnieston and will be starting to work from CityGym in Pollokshaws I have the fantastic opportunity to perform my runs in the wonderful scenery of Pollok park. Starting from the gym I quickly entered the park and found myself involved in a race that was already taking place! There are a lot of potential routes in Pollok park and this one started off quite muddy! Good little trail run that then went onto tarmac. Following the river along to the motorway and then looping back up past Pollok house and round to the burrell collection. From here I looped back round to the gym via the Hags road and finished with a nice little 7km! Fairly racking up the km now!

BB T-2 days - 365Challenge

OK - testing testing - first blog on my attempt at Tony Curtis' mad challenge of running every day for 1 year! Almost looking forward to the 1st Nov when my challenge starts - TC's already well under way leading the charge - what a geezer!
Went for a bimble yesterday up around a great favourite route through the woods and over the fields towards Bristol airport. Not pacey, just nice to get out in the drizzle early evening and occasional deluge.

Cobweb cleaner T-2 days

1st Nov will find me in Indianapolis in the US - already got my week's routes planned for downtown, early morning. No doubt in the pitch black past the zoo! Will see if we can't get some t-shirts and sweathsirts sorted for this mad mad challenge!

Tony Day 9/365 - Greens running club - repeat of yesterdays 10km route except performed negative split on return.

Great run out with Glasgow greens run club. Performed the repeat of the run that I performed yesterday apart from getting the guys to perform a negative split on the return. In order to tire out the runners before the split I got them to perform hill repeats at certain points on the way out. Good hard run with a really good group of runners.

Tony Day 8/365 - Kelvin walkway 10km: out there and back

So the challenge for me is more than a week old! I now have only 51 more weeks to go!! This 10km route is one of my fav as it runs through some very leafy parts of the west end along the kelvin river. Trained my upper body immediately before going out on this run so know that my metabolism was already raised. Notice that I am losing weight already so need to stress the importance of eating throughout this great challenge.
As always - I took my phone along with me to take pictures of things that interest me along my run. Today along the kelvin way the graffiti caught my eye. Think Glasgow has some really good graffiti artists and you can find their work in random places! below is some work at kelvinbridge
 Some bins in Kelvingrove park:
And at the arches beside big blue!:

Tony day 7/365 - Down the Broomielaw up to Glasgow cathedral and back

Good little run today through the east end of the city. Started from the gym as usual and journeyed along the Broomielaw and on to Glasgow green. From the green i ran up the back roads to the Cathedral and along to garnethill. Simple straight jog along to the gym to finish my easy 10km!
Had a great breakfast this morning, well actually two breakfasts!! Also preparing the bepanthan!!

Day One: About to start !

So after months of being encouraged/ persuaded to run parts of the West Highland Way or Ultra marathons or push tyres and swing hammers to pass my saturday mornings with TC...I have got on board with his latest ventyre!
Running 365 days of the year ( minimum 5 k and Garmin upload as evidence no less) and for charity is an awesome idea and a great motivator....people will know i'm doing it, on the days i usually skive exercise at least i will burn off some of my daily haribo intake....and i may eventually get some abs!
Day one i am going to try Fusion triathalon Club as i really struggle to do speed work alone! hopefully if peer pressure and competitveness with much better runners kicks in i will improve....garmin to follow!
Does this challenge include Christmas day ...holidays..when it snows etc....it does...uh oh!

Day 6/365 - West end run

Its only day 6 and I can already see that I will need to come up with some more routes for my runs. If you have any runs that you prefer to do can you 'save as course' and email them over to me and I can upload them to my garmin. If you are looking for someone to run with please get in touch also as I will be looking for companionship along the challenge as starting to get bored of my own company!

Day 5/365 - Twice round Queens park before MITP

Had some time to kill before MITP so parked the car up and did a couple of laps of the park. There is a cheeky wee hill at the Victoria infirmary side of the park that comes as a bit of a shock! expected it the second time though. Left leg feels a little tight but will be sure to get a sports massage to sort that out.

Day 4/365 - 5km Tempo run in the West end

Day 4 thought would take it a little easier and do a shorter distance, however holding back is not in my vocab so pushed it a little for this 5km that has a few hills in it. Going to use this route as a tempo circuit that i can judge my improving fitness on.

What I did discover, and this stresses the importance of looking after your feet throughout an incredible challenge like this, is that there is an incredible amount of rubbing goes on in your shoe when performing speed work. Please look after your feet when taking part in the run365challenge!

Day 3/365 - GWR & West end run

Great day out after yesterdays speed session at Greens run club. Legs feel good today. Nice to have an easy run through the west end!!
Gave me an excuse to get up early on a lazy Sunday and have a nice gentle jog. Also gave me an opportunity to stop off at jelly hill in the west end for a nice soya latte and essential Glycogen replenishment (see picture) at 8km. After this kicked a little down Clarence drive and back along to Anniesland to finish me off!

Day 2/365 - Run Club with Glasgow Greens

After last night didn't want to do intervals but that's not always possible with a running club especially this lot! Was good to have some competition! thanks guys, now looking forward to an easy run tomorrow.
Thanks to all the guys at Greens running club. Will be there again for more running up the stairs at the Buchanan galleries and having the jobs-worth guys with their high-vis vests come and chase us!!!

The run 365 challenge!!

So have decided to embark on a fantastic challenge. I am going to attempt to run a minimum of 5km every day for one year (365 days) Will keep people posted as to how i get on and will verify all of my runs via the Garmin connect triangulation links. I will have a team that will also be trying to complete their 365 challenge and hope that we can all raise a lot of money for charity. If you would like to get involved in the challenge please get in touch and we can get you started. Looking to get everyone started by 1st November.
