Karen Days 34-38

Day 34 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248070101
Planned a 4-5 mile run but went out in my trail running trainers to try and change my regular trainers. Found out why trail shoes are no good on tarmac and had to cut the run short after only half a mile! Not enough cushioning for the tarmac and the pounding was making my shins ache. A disappointing and frustrating run tonight!

Day 35 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248070085
Learnt my lesson from yesterday and put on my winter road trainers. Bought these in the summer but couldn't wear them as my feet were just too hot! Perfect for today's conditions. Enjoyable 30min run before work.

Day 36 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248070081
Spent the day today sorting out the new garage and moving stuff from storage so a very physical and tiring day. Had just enough energy to cover the minimum distance and blow the cobwebs away, quite literately!!

Day 37 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248070073
Welcomed back my old friend West Hill into the run tonight! Spent many sessions running up this hill for Ironman training and haven't run up it since! Wasn't as bad as I'd expected so pleased to see that 36 days of running had prepared me well! Felt so good I even added another climb at the end of the run....!

Day 38 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248070069
Just a quick run after work, nothing special to report on a 'round the block' run. Quite enjoying the colder weather as I don't end up too hot and sweaty!!

Charles: Day 390/365 - Déjà vu vu

Same run as the previous 2 nights but this time it was a light sleety drizzle and I was still tired. What is the plural of Déjà vu anyway?

Pete Day 146 to 151 - Six runs to catch up on very wet very very wet !

Back to normal lunchtime 3.3 mile run today with Tony, if you can call it normal. Started after three quarters of a mile with a little flood, then turned towards Nynehead and found the road closed, climbed the barrier, negotiated the fallen tree, landslips and up the hill. The rest of the run was fine !!!

Well that's the ton fifty done and dusted, again no lunchtime run so just ran to Curry and back from home, just over 4 miles. It was a lovely DRY cold evening and enjoyed my run for the first time in a couple of days, leg improving. Take it easy till Friday and try a longer run then.
Pete Day 150 - A DRY but cold 4 miles by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Too busy at work today so no lunchtime run, had to do tonight after taking the young runners at club. So went for a run to Curry and back in the pouring rain 3.4 miles, leg slightly easier but still nagging.
Pete Day 149 - A very wet 3.4 miles avoiding the floods by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Planned on a thirteen miler this morning, but again leg ache, could just about manage 3.7 miles and decided to call it a day. Home to put on some rub and have breakfast. Going out today for a carvery at the Langport Arms, best around looking forward to that at least.
Pete Day 148 - A slow 3.7 miler (was going to be 13 !) by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Just a standard Bowdens Crest run today as we have visitors for the weekend, but also have a shin ache, must be to do with yesterday I think. Hopefully not too bad and will be gone in a couple of days.
Pete Day 147 - very wet three miler by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Today was a run back from work to the Park and Ride at Taunton, 10.25 miles, that's all, well until I had done three miles and came to Bradford. There was a bit of flooding, only ankle deep, no problem, until I turned the corner and ended up over knee deep in freezing water, could just about walk. Finished the run with just a couple more soggy bite but was very cold and never realy got going after the water. Usually enjoy but today was not fun.

After doing the house work I needed a buzz so rather then wait to go to running club I got my gear on and went out I was only going for a mile but i felt so good it ended up 5 miles with some fartlek and some hill reps.
So I wont be at club tonight I need to catch up with my mates. And this reminds me how unsociable my job is.

Charles: Day 388/365 - Knees to please

Tonight's run was rather painful and my right knee has swollen up a wee bit. I've been through much worse on this challenge and what this challenge has proven to me is that I know is that the pain is only temporary and I'm mentally strong enough to get through it :))

Well a first for me on the challenge besides club nights, to go hill training and somewhere different too.
Laura and i went through the town and then hit the paths to run up the tor which was very steep and windy. The view from the top was amazing (see pics below). I probably shouldn't have done hill training as I only had my op nearly 4 weeks ago. But needless to say I did it and at the moment everything is going brilliant :)

Charles: Day 385 to 387/365 - Keep on running

Day 385 was a late night run in the dark with my head torch and low and behold the batteries went flat. I can now honestly say that bushes, trees and grass verges are no longer my friends!

Day 386 was the same run as the previous day but with a working head torch. What a difference when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel (of trees).

Day 387 was with the running club and I really struggled with a sore right knee. The longer the run went on the worse it got and I could feel it starting to work its way up the thigh muscle to the hip. So glad that run is over!

Untitled by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Shed loads of paperwork to do this week, so no training with the club tonight. Popped out at around 3pm for a break from the computer & also to check how the River Yeo doing down at Long Load. Hmmm - higher than yesterday & it started raining again whilst I was out! Still lots of folk out with their cameras taking pictures. Chatted to one lady who has lived in the area for 28 years & never ever seen it quite so bad. Piccies below of the river - there are no lakes around here, just fields although you would never think so!!!

Below are the last few days.  You'll see a picture of Sat and Sun fast walk/run with a description of what happened.  Hope it's acceptable.  I'll try and find out what happened but the runs are on my iphone so hopefully it's proof enough that I did it!!

Day 141 by Sallycinn at Garmin Connect - Details
Days 139 and 140 were recorded on my iphone but didn't upload onto Garmin connect. I think it must have been the rain as they definitely recorded at the time.  I may have also been the fact that there was no phone signal or internet coverage in the Forest of Dean (where I was staying) and this may have had some effect.  Anyway, I have taken a picture of the entry with the date...I couldn't remember which day it was when I did them hence the question mark, but I did do the runs.  The first run on Saturday was a bit slow as I had trodden on glass in the morning and my friend who is a nurse had to take it out. Thought I was going to have to go to A&E so pleased I didn't have to.  It was a bit sore after so found it hard to run. It was also extremely muddy and wet.
Day 140 was the minimum run first and then I recorded a walk we did through the forest to Symmonds Yat in the forest.

Another few standard 5k runs following the route that has become my standard 5k option. This weekend I had an awesome Thanksgiving dinner cooked for me by Vicki's mate Lizzie. It was a really good evening with loads of food and plenty of wine! This meant that the runs were a little slow but it was well worth it!

3 miles after a lovely cycle this morning. To save on washing (which seems to be excessive now I'm running every day!) I went for my run in my cycle gear so was cooking after the first mile! Was pleased with how my legs were feeling today as I was expecting to feel a bit tired after the cycle but thumbs up for today. Guess tomorrow will be the test!

Nicky: Day 104 Viewing the floods by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Again, due to the soggy weather decided (forced) to stick to the local roads. Alf came along too as he wanted to come & see the river & newly formed lakes. Looks like the tide has come in! The river at the end of the village is bursting its banks & the fields look like lakes. One of the roads we trotted down was totally impassable unless you really do want a good soaking! Fences almost fully submerged which shows the depth in places! Quite scarey really - glad we are on slightly higher ground, although saying that, the well in our garden which is fed by an underground river is full to the brim - its usually around 6" down to the water level. Water is also slowly seeping up through the floor of our office & carpet becoming very wet - know idea how to stop it coming in apart from keep heating on full & towels on floor to soak it all up! GRRRRRR!!!

Garmin shows 5m done, actually did 6.27m

Karen Day 30-32

Day 30 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/246345162
A dry morning and even a little blue sky in places. A new route for this challenge but well trodden by me previously! Set out for a longer 5-6 mile route but knees were a bit painful today so cut it short.

Day 31 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/246345151
Was a bit apprehensive this morning after yesterdays knee issue, but started gradually and no issues today so got a 4 mile route in before work. Really wet and windy but soldiered on!!

Day 32 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/246345141
Weather worse today than yesterday and not particularly looking forward to going out but husband Matt saved the day by coming out with me - his first run after this ankle injury so nice and steady and only minimum distance. Was long enough in that weather though!! Knees still seem to be fine.... fingers crossed!

Nicky: Day 103 5.75m in the rain!!!

Nicky: Day 102 Knole Somerton Loop by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Was only going to do the basic 2m but as it was tipping it down so much I thought 2m wasnt worth getting soaked to the skin for so did nearly 6 instead. Actually it wasnt too bad. Donned my wet weather running kit so got soaked more from sweating (nice!) than the weather.

Ran down to Knole, across the main road & to outskirts of Somerton & back home along the mainish road.

Went for a walk at lunchtime to check out our local floods. Now you will see why Pete is going to start running with Wellies in Wellington & why we cant do too much off road running down here at the moment. There is no off road - just fields & fields of floods. As you will see, one of our favourite routes & also part of our running club 10k route is under water - the piccie of me on the road!

Am rather limited to where we run at the moment due to all the rain! Sticking with the roads & where there are not too many cars - cars have no consideration what so ever for us runners & with all the rivers running down the side of the road, I am tired of getting an extra soaking from drivers! So.... boring old Knole Rd again!!

Pete Days 144/145 - Two very different runs by Pljrun

No juniors tonight so went for a run with a few of the club members up to Bowdens, Grahame and I decided to go a bit further and managed 6.88 without getting out feet wet, which around here at the moment is not easy !! Very pleasant run with nice clear skies and bright moon, no light needed in places, really enjoyed the run.
Pete Day 144 - Wednesday club run by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Total contrast to yesterday, very very wet and extremely windy, at times it was one pace forward and two steps back ! Couple of flooded areas to run through which added to the pleasure! otherwise a standard lunchtime 3.3 mile run. Glad of the earlier effort when late home from work. Thinking about investing in another pair of trainers as I'm using the same ones every day and thinking that if they get wet I might need a second pair if running every day.

Nicky: Day 97 10m around Ham Hill by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Gorgeous day so set out to Ham Hill to do 10m. At least I anticipated the mud this time - there was plenty. Slipped over in it too so I was pretty filthy by the time I got home. Loads of dog walkers out & about & several large groups of glum looking teenagers on some sort of outward bound thing!
Ran around Montecute House gardens too & it all looked stunning in the sunshine. Wish I had taken the camera up there.
Near the end of the run there was a parascender stuck in a tree!  Apparently he had been up there 2 hours! No wind so not sure what happened! Also there were 4 fire engines, 1 ambulance, 5 ambulance cars, mountain rescue & a tree surgeon!!!  Slightly over the top - its no wonder that the NHS etc is so overspent. The chap was gallantly assisted from the tree & walked over to the ambulance grinning from ear to ear (with embarassment I think!) He seemed more concerned for his parachute left in the tree! All for an exciting Sunday.

Jack: Day 151/365...Where did all the colours go?

Today I decided to take a leisurely Sunday jog around Queen's Park. It was a nice crisp morning with plenty of others out walking and running in the park. As I embarked on my jog I really noticed how rare it is that I get to run in the daylight nowadays. With most of my jogs being evening adventures I had barely noticed the drastically different scenery to that of only a few weeks ago. It has not been long since I posted pictures of the trees in the park emblazoned with rich reds and bright golds and the paths littered with a multitude of colours. Today running through the very same park was a completely different matter. The same pathway that I had crunched along previously was now just soggy beneath my feet and the trees were bare. Any remaining leaves on the path had long lost their colour and faded to a dull brown. With a few of the evergreens still maintaining their leaves the park was sprinkled with some variation however this will soon change as the snow arrives! Some of the puddles in the park today had iced over and it is only a matter of time before the entire park is covered white. Before embarking on this challenge I was attracted to the idea that I would see the gradual change of scenery as I experienced a good twenty minutes of exposure to the elements every day. I thought I would see the changes coming and so notice any subtle differences on a day to day basis. It came as a surprise then that the alterations still managed to appear out of nowhere. Who knows when the snow will strike! Certainly not me!

Jack: Day 150/365

A big target hit! 150 days feels like progress is being made. I know that in reality it is not even half way through the challenge but there is something substantial about 'one hundred and fifty days' as an achievement. To have completed almost five months of the challenge signifies that it is really very achievable. Surely if I can manage to go 5 months without finding an excuse I will be able to do another 7!? Either way it is definitely a milestone that I am proud to have passed!

Today's run was a funny one as I decided to stick to a local route but throw in a few changes just to keep it interesting. This means I was mainly based in and around Queens Park but I decided to follow the main road back to the flat and run along the high street rather than the back roads. Because of this the run amounted to slightly further than usual and came in at just shy of 6 kilometres.

150 by jackarnold87 at Garmin Connect - Details

Jack: Day 148-149/365

148 was just another basic 5k run along the main road to Giffnock. Fairly boring I know but the options are getting more and more limited as the evenings get darker. 149 was a run to and from CrossFit as I stepped in to take a fundamentals session at 6:15pm. Whilst at the box I had a crack at a few pullups and handstand pressups and found them much harder than I had done previously. It just shows that while the running may be having a great impact on my cardiovascular fitness, the lack of strength training is really hammering my power. I am still able to force out a couple of muscle-ups on the rings though which is reassuring. I will have to make an effort to get back in the gym more often in order to maintain a good all round level of fitness.

The workload at school is also huge at the moment with my Interim Report due very soon. Lots of pressure which means lots of extra time planning and reflecting. It will all be worth it in the end.

Pete Day 141 - Sunday morning club run by Pljrun

Sunday morning, bright blue sky, frost on ground perfect for a nice run, would be nice to go off road but still very soggy and deep mud in places. So we all decided to stick to road and went off to do a loop around Burrow Hill. Another nice 12.65 run, good company and nice steady pace, it is so good to run with other people, extra motivation and the miles zip by. Makes me realise how lucky I am to be well, fit and able to do this, especially around here with the deer and other wild life to watch and admire.

Went for a nice 20 miler around the roads this morning, conditions perfect and really enjoyed the run. Kate did well it is the furthest she has run and still we averaged 8:06 min miles. Went from Langport to Drayton, Hambridge, Burrow Hill, West Lambrook, Martock, Kingsbury and back, couple of hills but mainly flat. Did well to remember some of the bits, not done for a long long time and memory is going.

Karen day 23 and 24

Day 23 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/243856461

Just a slow easy run for Day 23. Intended to do a 5 mile run the following day so thought I'd take it easy. A slow leisurely 2 mile run round town. Getting used to the uphill section on common road! Bit cold and wish I'd taken my gloves. Toes also a bit numb when I got back!

Day 24 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/243856454

Forgot about the cup cakes I was gonna make for the Children In Need cake sale at work today, so had to spend the morning in the kitchen rather than out on my 5 mile run! The run had to wait until after work, so I decided to challenge myself! Ran the same route as yesterday but pushed hard to see how fast I could cover the same distance. Was really pleased with the 3 min 35 sec that I shaved off yesterdays casual run. Made it a bit more interesting anyway and definitely no numb toes or need for gloves!

Charles: Day 377/365 - Cramp it up!

Same run as yesterday and yip cramp again in the left calf muscle. If the cramp continues over the weekends runs then I think it might be a trip to the demon sports massage guy

Pete Day 139 - Lunchtime run by Pljrun

Following a factory reset on the garmin, all seems to be working again. Only downside is a factory reset DELETES all data, so back at empty watch, days 135,136,137 gone forever !. Anyway today was another lunchtime run to test it, just in case I have to go out tonight with a phone. Seems to have worked ok just the finer settings to be sorted like autolap etc.

So today was a standard lunchtime 3.3 miler, on my own today so another quicker run, good training this.

Untitled by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Got in from work quite late after a pretty long day. Procrastinated for ages as was tired & that is was cold & dark outside. Eventually went out at about 7:30 - actually felt fine so enjoyed the trot!
Was supposed to be going up to Wales tomorrow to do the Beacons Ultra with a mate. Unfortunatly she rang to see that she injured her ankle during the week. She saw physio & osteo & they have stronly advised her not to take part as foot so swollen. The field for this race is pretty small (around 100) and so it gets spread out over the 22.5m circuit.  Last time I did this I ran with 2 others & we got a bit lost in the fog & the forecast for Saturday is not good. Alfie not happy for me to do this run on my own so with a heavy heart I am not doing it. :(

Charles: Day 376/365 - Cramp!

An old bog standard lunch time run. My leg calf muscle went solid and cramped up at about 2k so the rest of the slow run was in agony. Cold bath for me when I got home to shift the lactic acid!

First of this years 5k winter race series for me. Perfect running conditions: cold but not too cold, still and a pretty good turn out from our running club. Didnt really feel like running as legs been feeling a bit heavy. Knew this wasnt going to be a PB.  Still, struggled around trying to catch my mate Sue, but couldnt. Finished in 24:39 - not toooooo bad considering how I was feeling.

Pete Days 135 to 138 - Lunchtime run by Pljrun

Major problems with GARMIN 205 went for normal run yesterday and then went to club in the evening, unit would not turn on. Tried recharge - no avail, did a hot reset and watch came on with all data but it would not upload to anything. Phoned Garmin and after much trials and tribulation we came to the conclusion the data was corrupt, even though you could view each lap of every run. So deleted all runs one by one until it would upload. Basically EVERY RUN !!! Then I went for my todays run and it worked after a fashion, gave time and details but no mapping, as below. Watch will only switch on after sitting it in cradle and holding the mode and reset buttons for 10 secs, then once recharging comes up pressing the power button. Watch going back me thinks. Going to have to borrow a smart phone from someone again !! 6.87 miles with club on Wednesday evening and total of  10.04 for days 135,136 and 137.

Pete Day 138 - Lunchtime run by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Anyway upshot is all I have to prove days 135, 136, 137 are photos of the actual watch and the three lunchtime runs data, which are below. If this is not acceptable I guess I shall have to start again.

Jack: Day 145-147...Standard evening runs

Just a few easy jogs after work. Usual Giffnock route for the 5k distance. Nothing too dramatic to report. In other news I finished reading 'Bounce' (finally!) and have started reading "The perks of being a wallflower" which seems to be pretty good. Time will tell...

Tonight was the first night in a long long time that I felt like I couldn't be bothered. I gave myself a good talking too and forced myself out the door. I hated the run cos I simply wasn't in the mood. I struggled from the first step to the last one and having not long had about 20 Cadburys Chocolate Eclair sweets I felt bloated and sick.

2 miler town route tonight. Was thinking whilst running that the runs are definitely getting easier and I now have the choice of pushing a bit harder to 9 min miles or a leisurely run at 10 min miles. I've always before just had the one speed so noticing the benefits already!!  Will also try now to use the 2 mile route as my regular run with longer distances when I can run in the day, and only use the 1 miler option in emergency situations!! It no longer seems worth the effort to just go out for a mile so really pleased with progress so far!

Charles: Day 373 & 374/365 - "I could get used to it"

Day 373 was just a wee Sunday stroll. A lot of people were out and about and I even passed a couple of horses that were out on a wee trek along the pathway. Makes a real change to see some others using the path way

Day 374 was a late night run with only the head torch to let me see where I was going. Love it and could so get used to it as the distance and hills just seem to pass away without too much effort. I think if you don't see how steep a hill is then it doesn't seem as bad as it does in the daylight

Such a lovely day I thought I would pop down to Langport & run along the river. Silly me wore my nice clean road shoes! Hmmm!!  Lots of soggy cow pats & ankle deep mud in places but a stunning day for a country run. My only surprise was the lack of walkers out & about!  Ran from Tesco car park across the moor & onto the river bank. Crossed the bridge onto the Burrow Bridge road after a couple of miles. Followed the road along to Wick Hill & up I went. Only managed to run half way up. Then into Curry Rivel & followed the main road back to Tesco. Was on 6.7m so did another short loop to make up to 7m.

Till then I'm just getting through each day, which so far has been tough when I've run and having to slow has been hard but with some really good people behind me and they know who they are I get through the tough times. When it gets tough for me struggling to get through the mental agony I look forward to the London marathon and the fact that I'm still going, doing the daily It makes me feel better.

Pete Days 132,133 and 134 - Three different runs by Pljrun

Three different runs make up this batch, a standard 3.3 miler followed by a new 8.6 miler around Muchelney, Drayton and then Curry back to Langport. Then today a nice club run with Kate and Paul a slow steady 15 miler from Langport to Long Sutton, Somerton, Pitney and then back to Langport in glorious sunshine. A perfect autumn day with the occasional very cold pockets and an ankle deep bit of floods to run through just before Somerton.

Day 120-126 by a philosophical Sallycinn

Over a third through the challenge now and can't believe how running every day has become part of my life.  It's keeping me motivated and although sometimes I'm just doing the minimum, I know it's having a positive effect on me.
After being demotivated after the 10k last Sunday, I have spent the last week thinking about why I felt so disappointed.  I now realise that it's not about the time or feeling embarrased about being near the back - it's about being at the start line, doing your best but ultimately just doing it.  Can learn a lot from running! :)  Whoops - got a bit philosophical there!  Anyway, my week went like this...

Jack: Day 144/365

This morning I decided to do a slightly longer run than usual. The regular 5k running has been convenient however I feel that my progress has hit a plateau and so I need to start shaking things up a bit. Today's 10k took me to Pollock Park which was full of other runners and dog walkers taking advantage of the clear, dry morning. I enjoyed the run and took it fairly easy. I am going to try to incorporate more runs of this sort of distance into my training in order to keep things fresh.

Day 371 was with my new head torch around the dark lanes outside of Kennoway. It was freezing but I loved it and the head torch was brilliant. I think I must've blinded a few oncoming car drivers as they all dipped their headlights when I looked straight at them lol

Marg: Day 366/365 Challenge - last day!!!!!!!

Nice run today with Ben through the beech trees around Limes Park in Basingstoke. Last day in the UK. Since Ben was the one that suggested that I do this challenge, it was very fitting that he was running with me on my last day. It was a really nice run and a great way to finish.....

Well, here it is... The day I had been dreaming about and wishing for on some of my darker days on the challenge. The last day of a leap year run365challenge! It was a great sense of relief to do it but mixed with some sadness as I will not be continuing on as Charles has committed to doing.

I have run 1,171.6 miles (almost as far as Indianapolis to Miami) over 204 hrs, 57 mins and 24 secs (about 8 1/2 days straight) at an average speed of 5.7 mph. During this time I climbed 42,190 ft (more than twice the height of Mount McKinley)and burnt 132,222 calories (about the same amount of energy as in 806 medium Mars bars!). I ran a minimum of 2 miles but averaged 3.07 miles per day. I really cannot believe I have done this and so pleased to have achieved it!

Thanks for your support and friendship over the past year. I have been greatly encouraged by your posts, struggles, achievements and photos. I have really enjoyed this challenge and feel that I have achieved so much more than just the stats above. I feel like I can do anything I put my mind to now. I know how to overcome my desires to give up and know that even when going for a run was the last thing I wanted to do, I never regretted it after I had done it. This was every much a mental challenge as it was a physical challenge. I encourage everyone that is still doing the challenge to keep going, as it is so worth it!!

Still looking for my next "challenge", any ideas would be appreciated. Should have a walk365challenge or an exercise365challenge......

I will keep viewing the blog. Keep up the great work, thanks again and thanks Tony for starting this up.....what a great idea.

Marg: Day 365/365 Challenge - Bonny Scotland with Charles and Ben

Wow, I would never have expected to have such a brilliant run for my 365th day!!! We had been going to run the night before but our meeting ran over time and since we wanted to meet up for dinner we put it off until today. Just as well I had already done a run in the morning as I would have had to run around Edinburgh in the dark and rain after that fabulous dinner Ben, Michelle, Charles and I had!!

What a good decision it was to wait for our run around Arthur's Seat until today. The weather was fantastic and the run was awe inspiring! What a beautiful view of the city from there! Ben Charles and I ran from the hotel, around Charles usual route on Arthur's Seat plus a bit extra that Ben made us do, cos he needed to get his shoes dirty...and back again, about 5.5 miles.

It was so good and great to be with some of my run365challenge friends on the day. Thanks for organizing it Ben and Charles!

The two runs were in the same area but in opposite directions from the hotel. No map as I do not have global roaming on my iPhone. Just used the foot pod and made sure I ran a bit extra to account for the poor calibration.

Day 366 was with the running club and I took things rather easy and stayed with the back of the group. Nobody can say that I didn't do a full years running with it being a leap year.

Day 367 was just a boring old familiar run

Day 368 was a lap of Arthur's Seat. I was to meet up with Marg and Ben to go for this run as they were both in Edinburgh on a business trip. Charles: Day 365/365 - THE END! (or is it?)

DAY 365
The day has finally arrived after a full years (365 days) worth of running a minimum of 5km every day.

As a celebration, I took Michelle away for a long weekend to Glasgow to spoil her and to say thank you for all the support she has shown throughout the year.

I decided to do my final run around Glasgow Green and along the River Clyde to the SECC and back to the Hilton Garden Inn (formerly City Inn) where I proposed to Michelle in 2009. The hotel overlooks the Clyde, SECC, STV tv studios and the BBC tv studios. The run was an emotional one as I was about to complete the most difficult challenge I have ever set myself.

The year hasn't just been about the physical challenge, it has been a seriously tough mental challenge as well. I managed to bag a couple of serious injuries. I tore my left hip muscle on day 102 and then did the right hip by over compensating on day 162. I then got an injury to my right heel during one of the two Speed of Light events I did in August. The advice from everybody was to stop running to let my body heel up but I completely ignored them and continued on through the pain and agony. The other tough mental challenge is going out and doing your run regardless of the weather but thankfully we had a mild winter with only a few days of really strong winds to contend with.

During the year I've done 393 runs totalling 2480.69km = 1541 miles = 58.8 marathons = 4.23 miles per day. A lot lot more than minimum of 5k per day :))

I've also done 3 x half marathons, 7 x 10k's, 1 x Kilomathon and 9 x 5k races. Some of those races were even on the same day e.g. BUPA 5k & 10k, 2 x jogScotland 5k's. Not bad for a self confessed 10k runner :)

My plans for the future
I intend to continue on with this challenge until I at least reach day 400 (9th Dec) or to the end of the year but that will be determined by how my legs cope with the half marathon I have on the 2nd Dec. I then intend to take a 2/3 week break and rejoin the challenge for another year but with a different minimum distance.

In 2013, I hope to complete 2 marathons, 1 ultra marathon and a few half marathons and 10k's

In January 2014, I hope to do the Goofy Challenge is Disneyland, Florida. This involves doing the Donald Duck Half Marathon on the Saturday followed by the Mickey Mouse Marathon on the Sunday. If you do both you get the Goofy medal as well :)

And we will see what happens after that.......

Jack: Day 136-137...Surprise Warwick trip!

This weekend was my Aunt's surprise 40th birthday party in Warwick! Vicki and I got up early and flew down to Birmingham airport where we hired a motor and spent the morning wandering around Stratford-upon-Avon. I was loving it! As an English teacher I probably have a clause in my contract somewhere stating  that I have to be enthusiastic about Shakespeare but today was genuinely brilliant. Vicki and I had a wander round and checked out his birthplace before popping over to see his grave. I was gutted when we got there however to find that there was a wedding going on at the church and so we couldn't get in to see it! It just means I will have to go back. Once we had seen enough we checked into our hotel and I went for my run. I decided to run up to Warwick Castle which was just over 6km and a really nice route. I took my phone so I could get a few pictures however I still haven't quite mastered the art of taking a photo of myself with the intended background so the one below of me with the castle was one of about ten attempts! After a night of partying with my family I got up early for a pre-breakfast run. After a night of celebrations however this run was decidedly slower and I cut it back to the minimum distance of 5km. It still set me up perfectly for a buffet hotel breakfast however and  definitely got my moneys worth!!

These were mainly 5k out and back runs around Shawlands. It is so dark by the time I come in from school now that I can't really use the park and so it is just a case of using routes that I know and that are fairly well lit! Nothing exciting to report!

Charles: Day 363 & 364/365 - Almost!

Day 363 was a local run that I intentionally kept slow as my legs were quite heavy and I didn't want to overdo things.

Day 364 was in Glasgow as Michelle and I decded to go away for a long weekend to celebrate the glorious day. It was freezing cold and I struggled with this run, probably because I knew I was getting closer to end....
