120/365 The end of April and 4 months in. by Big Kev

So I have reached the end of 4 months which is 120 days of running, I am very pleased to report that there have been to date, no real ill effects from the running, perhaps even the opposite.

The month has only refocused my reserve to complete the challenge, with loved ones lost, others celebrating retirement and immediate family about to make life changing decisions, to use a quote from Vinnie Jones in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,'it's been emotional!'

The stats for the month show me that this is by far the quickest month for miles travelled and that the 137 added for April brings the total miles covered to 550. I have smashed my 5K PB for Ashton Courts Park Run, I have a new Course PB for the Forest of Dean Half Marathon and my quickest every single mile while running.

Its interesting that I probably won't be able to appreciate these achievements properly until after the challenge is finished. So for now a nice shower, some good food and some encouragement from you all is all I need to keep going.

119/365 An evening out and about along the river. by Big Kev

With the end of the month fast approaching I thought I would take advantage of the evening light and get some miles under my belt. The trail along the river seemed the nicest choice, especially as Leigh Woods and Nightingale valley were part of the route. I did only bank on 5 miles, but ended up doing 8.5 miles as it was a nice evening.

If I end up doing the same route tomorrow I certainly wouldn't be disappointed.

One day of the month left and then I can add up all the totals again. It has been a surprising month so far on so many levels!

Jack: Day 310-313/365...back to the short stuff.

Due to experiencing a pain in the sole of my left foot I decided to take these runs all pretty easy and to take the distance back down to my minimum of 5km. The arrival of my new trainers meant that this was probably a good time to try a few short runs anyway. Each day that I went out my foot felt a little better and so I am hoping that, by taking things fairly easy over the next week, I should be able to get another long-ish run in at the weekend. I only have four weeks till my marathon now and so it is not worth risking anything serious happening. I know that my fitness is good just now and I am just working to maintain until race day.

118/365 Home to Dovecote 3 miles ish. by Big Kev

The morning (lunchtime) after the night before!

Well the expectations of the night before and the actual events seem to have been the same and the celebrations were, how do you say, alcoholic!

Great company, good food and free flowing wine lead to an extended lay in this morning and a very slow breakfast that finished around midday.

With the prospect of a downhill run and a lift back home at the end of it, I would say I jumped at the chance, but there was definitely no jumping going on today.

The run itself was refreshing and through the grounds of Ashton Court, so there were plenty of mountain bikes and riders for company, meaning I needed to keep my wits about me. Really, they were coming from every direction!!!

With just 2 runs left before the end of the month is been an interesting to review the stats, but I will save the surprises for the first day of May.

Planned 15m run with Sue from running club as part of our Edinburgh training. Sue was keen to keep the pace at around 8:56 minute miling. I wasnt sure I would be able to cope with this only 2 weeks after Brighton Marathon. Felt pretty good though. Few hills en route which was fine. I was over dressed so was drenched in sweat when we got back. Completed in 2:12 so well within Sues target. Very tired now but hopefully I will get another sub 4 in Edinburgh in 4 wks time.

Jack: Day 309/365...Grammarathon Day!

Today was the day of the school 'Grammarathon'. The pupils all paid a pound to wear their own trainers to school and the funds raised were split between the charities which are being represented by my colleagues and I in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. In addition to this event we installed a treadmill in the Memorial Hall and took it in turns to run on the machine for the duration of the school day. With 6 members of staff and 7 periods through the day, I drew the short straw and was landed with running for two 50 minute periods through the day. Other staff members organised a sweepstake to predict the total distance covered and pupils donated their pennies into buckets as we ran. It was a great event and the whole school got behind us. A feature in the local paper also helped raise the profile of the event and we managed to raise almost £500 between us.

I was unable to track my individual distance on the treadmill but believe I covered approximately 23km. In order to ensure I had a record of running on this day, I ran an additional 5km once I arrived home in the evening so that I could track it on my Garmin.

Jack: Day 306-308/365...Getting the miles in.

Another few days of running to and from school. This is a great way of getting my weekly mileage up and is saving me a fair bit of cash!  I am really enjoying it but I think I will have to cut back next week and substitute a couple of these runs for some speed work / hill sessions.

The sole of my left foot is getting to be quite sore also. I think it may be the impact of running with the weight on my back which has been causing it and so will be keeping an eye on things over the next week. I have ordered some new trainers and hopefully these will help also!

117/365 Park Run's 2nd Birthday by Big Kev

117/365 Park Run's 2nd Birthday by Big Kev

Happy 2nd Birthday Ashton Court Park run. This morning run was somewhat of a surprise as even though I had mentally prepared for an early start this morning, the large amount of alcohol consumed last night put pay to any wake up alarms being set. So to my surprise I awoke in time to get up, hold my head, get dressed, hold my head some more and agree not to have breakfast for fear of repercussions on the run. However, even feeling a little fragile I was still able to get there in time to find a parking space outside of the car park and have time to warm up sufficiently. Sufficiently enough to understand that the headache wasn't going to go away and that it was a lot colder than anticipated.

So consider my surprise following the excellent announcements and prize giving before the run, that when called to the start line I find myself towards the front, what kind of autopilot is this? Worry not, when the whistle goes the hordes stream past me, ah time to relax. The hill then beckons and approaches in all its glory, only to find that the hordes seem to be going backwards, as surely I can't be catching them? As we reach the highest point of the course I conclude that all those runners in front of me at the start must have got lost, as I can't see as many of them in front of me any more, what is going on? Don't worry its the downhill section now they will come flooding past. Again I must be mistaken as I seem to be passing runners on by one and before I know it the finish is in sight, what's this another sub 20 min run, no it can't be I must have stopped the Garmin somewhere along the way. No it is correct and the volunteer on the race numbers has just given me position number 11, Caple you crazy man!

The time has to be validated, but according to my Garmin I have again, not only gone under 20 minutes, but 19:30, I think I may need to keep this training schedule up as its paying dividends!!!

Bring on the Father-in-laws retirement celebration this evening, by the time this is finished I should be in world record breaking form for tomorrow mornings run (well maybe the afternoon).

116/365 a very late lunchtime run! by Big Kev

Friday is starting to become the 'New Monday', as it seems we are now as busy, if not busier, at the end of the week as we are at the start. Therefore with all the good intentions of running at lunchtime organised around the breakfast table, it was (because of all this busyness) not until gone 5pm before lunch was considered and then the run finally started.

Still a dozen strides into it and I am heading into Leigh woods and onto the hills and trails, so any thought of work soon dissipates. A loop of Leigh Woods and 5K later and I am back at home, ready to shower and eat. A few nice surprises later and I am off shopping with Tina to but shoes (for me) and presents for the girls.

Looking forward to Park Run tomorrow.

Up and out with one of my managers at 6:30am for a 3m ish run before conference starts at 08:30. Unfortunatly we got slightly lost in the woods. Asked several spaniards for directions back to the hotel but none seemed to know where we meant. Couldnt find a taxi, we didnt have a phone or any money on us anyway. Eventually found a local walker/rambler who knew where we were. So what should have been 3ish miles turned into 8m. You can clearly see from the garmin connect map where we went wrong. 115/365 Leigh Court loop 5K by Big Kev

A run towards the end of the day, today, after a full day in the business. It's great to have so many new ventures opening up in front of us at the moment and with it a sense of validation for all of the hard work that has been put in. In the same respect, all of the hard work that has been put into the running is also yielding some excellent race times and with it a great sense of achievement. With a third of the challenge fast approaching it's hard to understand where the time has gone. So, these few line each day really make it worthwhile.

It has been a very emotional 4 months and that's even without the running. With so many changes in and around the family and the business really starting to fly, I am reminded that if you don't take stock every now and then and appreciate what you have achieved, then all too quickly it might be too late.

I have a busy race calendar coming up in May and June, so I am looking forward to some time off with the family and friends in a few weeks, but obviously not from the running!

112/365 Lunchtime (ish) 5K around Clevedon and along the front by Big Kev

112/365 Lunchtime (ish) 5K around Clevedon and along the front by Big Kev

A sneaky lunchtime run today, as being a Monday there is always lots to do. Today though offered up the opportunity to get out as I had to preform some dad taxi duties over the lunchtime. Katie had an appointment in Clevedon, so I best used my down time for forward propulsion of the running kind. A start from Clevedon High street lead me to the promenade and finally to the pier and all to soon the halfway point was reached. An about turn and the same route covered supplied me with another 5K for the register.

With all of the happiness of yesterday's London Marathon I am reminded of the pleasure this simple task of forward propulsion provides for those taking part and for those supporting.

I do hope the ballot is kind next year as I would very much like to take part again. It's great how the human body and mind can forget so quickly, the pain and suffering it endures in training and taking part in a marathon. So my kind thoughts and good wishes go out to all who are, have and are contemplating their own marathon.

Bring on tomorrow run.

Pete Day 295 - London Marathon by Pljrun

Well here we are another London and out to beat my best time, tried to go for a 3:30. A nice clear day (may be hot, don't like running in the heat) so I went for it. Started well and had a good start, kept with the 3:30 pace group till 16 miles, then the heat got to me. Suffered cramp at 17, 19, 22 and 24 miles which I had to stop for and gave me a bad few miles (time wise) slightly recovered between these but as I turned the corner at the Mall I could see the clock and wham both legs cramped up. I had to stop and watch the clock tick over, could not move an inch, some kind lady came over and offered to help me over the line, but NO I was going to make it. After what seemed an eternity I finally, stiff legged, got moving again and managed to run over the line in 3:52:13. Slightly dissapointed, but what the heck there is always next time (if I get in again!!) Must say what a fantastic atmosphere, the silence before was impeccable, the crowds where immense, it seemed bigger than normal and the noise was incredible. Whether it was the Mo effect, the olympic effect, the good weather or sticking two fingers to the terrorists it was a great day and one I will certainly remember.

Jack: Day 305/365...Long Run listening to London.

Today was the day of the Virgin London Marathon 2013. An incredible day every year and, once again, I was gutted to not be there. Instead I set my alarm for 6 am and woke up to fuel a nice long steady run in preparation for my own marathon in five weeks time. Today was a chance to test out a few things before race day. Breakfast was the standard porridge with banana with a 'Boost' and a handful of jelly babies on the side. I carried a Lucozade sport with me on the run along with a few High-5 EnergyGels in order to test these before they are dished out at the race. I set out with the intention of running for 3hours at a nice slow pace. I managed to do this and the supplements were all effective. I had no real problems and enjoyed a nice run listening to the coverage of the London Marathon. In the end I covered just short of 23 miles and felt very comfortable. The afternoon is to be spent enjoying Vicki's free Spa passes which will be much appreciated after this morning's effort! Very nice!

111/365 Dovecote to Home 5K (ish) by Big Kev

After Dropping Katie off at her new place of work with Tina, I had the opportunity to run point to point. This is definitely my favourite form of running as the scenery is constantly changing and distracts the mind from any pain. The route home though is for the overwhelming majority uphill. Now I didn't know what to expect from today's run, as yesterdays Park Run PB was bound to have some effect. However, after applying some forethought to the hill in front of me, I was still able to keep a very good pace. This is due in part to being overly motivated by watching the London Marathon unfold this morning and as overly keen to get back before the mens finish.

What a race and an amazing finish. There are something we Brits do really well and the London Marathon and its support is one of them. Already looking forward to the ballot for next year, please let me get in!.

What is going on? I have had an easier week with regards to miles completed, but it's still over 30 again and yet I have smashed my Park Run 5K PB for Ashton Court by 28 seconds, to post 19:27. For the uninitiated that might not sound a lot, but on that course it's huge for me. The weather was perfect and the sun was shinning, so I am going to put it down to the hill being less of a concern as I was enjoying the views!!!

The chatter today, was obviously about the London Marathon and the events that unfolded in Boston on Monday, so it was nice to see a crowd of runners show their support for both events. Good luck to everyone running on Sunday.

Today's run was the 100th running of the event and next week is the 2nd Birthday for Ashton Court. So, I encourage one and all to make it extra special by signing up on line. Check out the dedicated Ashton Court Page. www.parkrun.org.uk/ashton-court

Jack: Day 304/365...Recover.

Today was another gently 5km jog through Giffnock. I used the run as a chance to get to the shop and stock up for tomorrow's long effort. I will be running a long slow one and so wanted to get some Lucozade and, of course, a Boost. I have also managed to get hold of some of the Hi-5 EnergyGels which will be distributed at  Edinburgh. Tomorrow I will try these out whilst on my training run so I can decide if I am going to take advantage of these on race day.

Jack:Day 299-303/365...S'Cool Runnings!

This week I have tried something new...running to work. It is slightly over 6 miles from my flat to the school and, with a fully loaded bag, is taking me about 40 minutes to jog in. The advantages of this are plenty:
1) It saves me £20 a week on train fares
2) It get my daily run out of the way
3) It's increasing my mileage (marathon prep!)
4) It is quicker for me to run than it is for me to take the train.

And a real bonus...
5) The shower at work as much better than the one at home!

These runs have all been at a fairly steady pace and are occasionally interrupted by crossing roads etc but generally they have been good. I just did a standard 5km run on Wednesday and avoided running to school as I was tutoring straight after work and so needed the car. This also gave me the opportunity to take some clean and ironed shirts in for later in the week! Bonus. I am very fortunate that my little brother gave me his old day-sack as it is ideal for this malarkey! It is nice and secure on my back, holds all of my work stuff and even has a handy waterproof cover built in! Winner!

AND I have passed the 300 mark! This is Sparta...

Jack: Day 296-298/365...A few easy short ones.

This weekend was made up of a few easy short runs as I was still recovering from my 20 miler during the week. I didn't want to push it too hard and so all were about 5/6 km and nice and steady. Easy does it.

Last post - Run 365/365 - Friday April 19

I completed my challenge last Friday (April 19).
It was a somewhat anticlimactic week as I had picked up a skin infection on my leg and was on antibiotics for the week so hobbled around a regular 3k to complete the challenge.
The previous 2 weekends saw me do 97 miles on the West Highland Way and 55 miles on the Cateran Trail which topped off a fantastic year of running.

Having stopped the challenge I wish I was back on it again as it gave me focus.

All the best to all of you guys still going strong.

Charles: Day 109/365 - Confession Time

Shock, horror! I have a confession to make......I did a 5 mile run in warm sunshine and it was the first time this year that I've managed to get out on a training run without a jacket. I could get used to it but sadly I think that's it for this year. Back to waterproofs tomorrow :)

109/365 A late lunch run from home by Big Kev

109/365 A late lunch run from home by Big Kev

With a hectic work schedule this morning the lunchtime run was a bit late. On the upside though, the sun was shining and it was warm enough for just a shirt and shorts. The plan was therefore to get away from the main road and stay in the sun for as long as possible (covering 5k ish). Turing right from home leads me a long Sandy lane which meets the bottom of Abbots Pool, a large loop around the pool and Snake's Well Wood and I am back on Sandy lane and heading towards home. I am still amazed at how distracted you become while running and enjoying the countryside, as the run seems to be over so much quicker than normal. Again its obviously only a perspective of time as the watch still shows 25 minutes have passed and 3.5 miles have been covered.

Here's to the weekend, one of gardening jobs, filing accounts and kit cleaning. Add in Park Run tomorrow and watching the London Marathon on Sunday and that's the weekend pretty much full.

108/365 500 miles! by Big Kev

Tonight's run passed another milestone, yep 500 miles! The daily average is creeping up and I am way over the minimum of 3 miles a day. I remember from my marathon training that I cover around 650 miles before the London Marathon and that was over 16 weeks. I won't be far off this total in a similar time frame, amazing.

Whilst the legs were a little heavy tonight it was still nice to be out in the daylight at gone 7:00pm. All we need now is the temperature to rise a little and it will be perfect.

Nicky: Day 244 Brighton Marathon

Nicky: Day 244 Brighton Marathon by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

My aim for Brighton at the beginning of the year was a sub 4. That was until I hurt my coccyx ice skating, and spent to much time enjoying myself on a skiing holiday & trip to Australia.
Registered on Saturday for the marathon - weather quite dreadful but forecast for tomorrow supposed to be ok. I picked up a pacing chart for the 4:15 - 4:30 running groups.
Race day up at 05:30 as had to get into Brighton to park the car before 7am due to road closures. Met up with Danny & Sorrel from club for a cup of tea pre the run. Park for the start a bit of a quagmire. Said good luck & goodbye to my friend Jane Brookhouse at the start & wished her a good race (she was feeling quite unwell so was just hoping to finish). Off I set - pretty crowded so the first 3 or so miles were spent dodging people! I found my poor old eye sight is not what it was & I couldnt actually see the times on the pacing chart. Decided to wing it & if I felt good go for it & slow down if tired. Felt fantastic for the first 18 or so miles then saw St Johns Ambulance trying to resuscitate the young lad who later died. This threw me a bit & I really struggled for the next couple of miles. At mile 20 decided to walk a bit & eat a few of the Sport bloc for some extra energy. Had also stopped twice for the loo by now. Last 6m are a bit of a blur but I felt better when I realised I had just overtaken the sub 4hr pacing group. Decided to go for it. Finished in a PB & time of 3:57:07 - pretty delighted with myself!!

Real Strenght

Yesterday my wife came home from the hospital after a total left knee replacement. Since she planned to have the surgery we have talked with what seems like hundreds of people who have had them. The stories that we got, like you might imagine, are of pain - big pain. Loved ones that were caring for them have told me of how difficult the recovery is - so we were hoping for the best and bracing ourselves for the worst.
Difficult to express how well Debbie is doing. She doesn't seem much more put out than she was prior to her surgery. She is getting along so well that her mother likely wasted a trip to come care for her while I am at the office. She is putting herself of the CMP that is used 6 hours a day to keep the knee moving, walks around the house - gets up and gets her own medication and has even been outside! These are "therapies" for her. She smiles through all these activities too.  My love, my hat is off to you once again, for not only meeting your challenges but doing so with style and grace.

The last Wednesday night club run before the London Marathon is always one of excitement and anticipation. It was nice to see that regardless of the events of Monday in Boston, this has held true. The runners and supporters continue to show their support and will not be changed in their resolve to go out and give it their all on Sunday.

Tonight's run for me was one where I was able to enjoy for the first time this year our Summer route, which takes in the Downs, the Clifton Suspension Bridge and observatory and Ashton court. Not to shabby at all!!!!

106/365 5K following the Boston bombings by Big Kev

We returned home from Scuba diving late on Monday night to be made aware of the horrific events unfolding at the end of the Boston marathon. With the media circus covering it from every angle the pictures and words of those effected have been spread globally and my heart goes out to all those involved.

Today's run was therefore a sombre one, as something so pure as running and as so simple as supporting someone else's triumph at completing a marathon has been tainted for those in Boston.

I won't stop running or supporting my fellow athlete's in their time of triumph and for me this is the best way I can celebrate those that are no longer with us.

keep on running.

105/365 Gloucester lunchtime 5K run by Big Kev

A busy Monday that involved, a visit to the Gloucester office, client meetings, interviews and then a dash back to Bristol for the evening Scuba diving class, lead to a lunchtime run. The office in Gloucester is just on the outskirts, so even the route around the perimeter of the housing estate is framed by open fields and views out towards the country side. All in all a nice easy run today.

The dash back to Bristol was a little fraught with traffic, however once the truck was loaded with kit we made it to the pool in plenty of time. A great result overall, as we were able to complete all of the confined water training for the 6 students I am teaching. That leaves us with one spare pool session for more practice before we depart for warmer shores.

looking forward to it already, running and scuba diving in the same week, excellent.

Pete Day 286 to 288 - Three runs to catch up, weather getting warmer, by Pljrun

Three days to catch up on, Friday was a standard lunchtime run a little windy but warmer so not too bad. Saturday went for a steady run in my new new shoes, post Taunton sore feet (which I ran in a different than normal new shoe) decided to buy a pair of my normal shoes, they arrived Friday afternoon so wore them today, what a nice run, weather pleasant and with London in mind this week was going to be easy, but I ended up averaging 7.55 (not intended). Sunday went for a longer run to get the miles in my shoes and again felt really good, warmer than of late but very windy ! it felt like one pace forward and one pace back in places. Moral of the tale don't settle for shoes you can afford, wait and get what you need, no substitute for what you are used to.

Charles: Day 104/365 - Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon

I had a 13 mile training run this weekend so decided to do the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in Edinburgh. Having already run 44.5 miles this week, I knew this was going to be a tough run and it didn't disappoint. I think they must've found every damn hill in Edinburgh and combined with the strong winds and rain it was certainly tough. All in all I think I did not too bad for an 18 stone 45 year old :)

The run was good (but tough) but the organisation at the finish line was absolutely diabolical for an event that cost almost £40. The queues for the goody bags and t-shirts were absolutely enormous with thousands of people waiting to collect them so I couldn't be bothered hanging around. Normally everything is given out on the finish lines but no these idiots made everybody queue in the freezing winds and rain. Complaint going on website!!!

Well the head finally did lead the heart and I rested today instead of raced (sort of). I opted for a simple 5K around the woods today which meant that I kept the effort needed under control. After the high and lows of last week I am going to aim for a week of minimums, with the exception of Wednesday club night and next Sunday's long run. The mileage totals are going up quickly again, so a quieter week should do the body and soul a favour.

Therefore with kit washed and bags backed I am ready for the week ahead, bring it on.

103/365 Portishead to home 8 miles by Big Kev

Today's run was off the back of a terrible 4 mile run yesterday, so I will be honest that I was hoping it was just a one off and not a precursor to things to come. The good news is that I managed it well and even had enough energy to go off piste towards the end. Another 8 miles added to this weeks total, which actually brings up the biggest weekly total of 41 miles.

I am aware of all the big efforts being put in this weekend and wish everyone well. Of particular note is the Exmoor Coastal Marathon, this is one I love and I hope Emma Oughton gets her just desserts after all the work I know she has put in. Also the numerous people who are off to the Brighton Marathon tomorrow, I hope the weather holds out to allow for some good times.

I am going to review my choice to run the Riverbank Rollick tomorrow based on what the weather has on offer. I am feeling a little tired today and I have already achieved the one race per month target, by running the Forest of Dean, so for a change I am going to let the head lead the heart.

102/365 Hard work to get home by Big Kev

At the end of a very emotional week, I thought that a simple run home from Bedminster along the towpath by the River Avon would be a fitting finish to the week. However the legs and the rest of the body just didn't want to work, no matter what I had to say on the topic. Admittedly I hadn't hydrated properly through the day, but I was only looking at 4 miles after all. Well, what ever it was that was causing it, I did not enjoy a single step today and ended up in bits when I eventually got home.

I will chalk this one up to just a bad day and I hope tomorrow's run puts it all back into perspective.

Edinburgh Marathon Tactics

So a question which I have been pondering a lot today is that of tactics for the Edinburgh Marathon. I have been listening to a lot of advice suggesting that, in any marathon, you should aim for a steady pace throughout - potentially even running a faster second half than a first half. However part of me cannot help but think I should take advantage of the fact that the first 6 miles of the Edinburgh course is downhill.

What do you think? To hit my target time I need to average 6:52 per mile splits. Do I hold myself back on the downhill and stick at this pace or do I allow the hill to push my pace up slightly so that I have a little time left in the bank for when the race flattens out...

Day 273-277 by Sallycinn

This week has been pretty standard... a few minimum runs inbetween key sessions.  Tuesday was a tempo run - legs felt tired after the long run on Saturday so struggled a bit but kept going.  Thursday night was intervals in the pouring rain.  Didn't record the intervals but I did 30 mins of 30s/1min intervals which came to about 3 miles.

Jack: Day 295/365...A Beast.

Today I set myself the challenge of a 20 mile training run. I have just over 6 weeks to Edinburgh and, mainly as a confidence boost, I wanted to complete a long, fast run. I set out with the intention of maintaining a 6:52 split (3 hr marathon pace) and succesfully held this for the duration. I ended up finishing the run about a minute ahead of schedule which was nice however the run was hard. I felt ok in the lungs but my legs were aching by about half way. From the moment I set off my calves were tight (although this may have been from the 12 mile run I completed 2 days ago!) and I was worried about lasting the distance. I kept with it however and managed to finish strong.
Overall I feel positive about today's run. I achieved what I set out to do - but it was bloody difficult! Hopefully with the benefit of another months training, as well as some proper 'race-prep', I will be ready to maintain that speed for a further 6 miles when Edinburgh comes along! We shall soon see!

Jack: Day 292-294/365...proper training.

As I near the final six weeks of my marathon training I realise the need to get some 'proper training' in. While I managed a few decent training sessions in the build up to 'The Mighty Deerstalker', my sore ankle held me back in the weeks that followed. As I have had no issue with the ankle recently it is now or never to get back on track for a decent marathon time. These three runs took place during my Easter Break and so I was able to do them at my leisure.

Day 292 was an interval session which took place over 6km. I allowed a 5minute warm up before doing bursts of 5minutes at a high speed and allowing 2 minute recoveries. I felt strong during this and I would have like to have completed more sets. Next time I will attempt a higher number of these intervals.

Day 293 was a chance for a slightly longer run. I have not really covered any proper distance in recent weeks due to my issues with my ankle. I decided to go for a 12.5 mile effort to see if everything was ok over this distance. I had no issues and managed to finish the training run in 1hr 24mins. This felt good and I felt strong at the end of the session. Very reassuring.

On Day 294 I decided to take things very easy and simply complete my 5km jog without too much intensity. The reason for this was to allow some recovery from yesterdays longer effort but also to prepare myself for an even longer run tomorrow. I have decided to have a go at a 20 mile effort tomorrow. I really need to get a couple of lengthy runs in, both for the benefit of my training but also for my own psychological benefit. Recently I have been having doubts about my ability to last the distance at the pace which I have set myself. I figure that if I can complete a long run at a fairly reasonable pace, I will feel more confident coming into the marathon itself. Only time will tell!

Well todays lunchtime run was more like it, sun in the sky, very little breeze and it was even very warm in places, what a contrast to yesterday evening !! lets hope this is the turn.
Pete Day 285 - Standard lunchtime 3.3 mile run in the warmth !!!! by Pljrun at Garmin Connect - Details

Todays runs consisted of a warm but windy lunchtime run with Tony, even the wind had a warm feeling to it and even though rain was in the air we stayed dry. However the evening club run was the exact opposite, it rained from start to finish and the wind was damn cold. Still it is sposed to be getting warmer.

101/365 In memory of Anne Shayler by Big Kev

101/365 In memory of Anne Shayler by Big Kev

This mornings 5k run was one for contemplation. My lovely Aunt Anne Shayler passed away just over a week ago and today was her funeral and the celebration of her life. Family and friends joined together today to say goodbye and share stories of her life. Wherever she is now I am sure she is sharing the same stories with her husband Mike and that she is finally settled.

Her boys, Daren, Simon and Del have all held themselves well today and they should be proud of the way in which the events of today have unfolded and of all the kind words around them.

The run therefore was in her memory and the woods, the trails and the birds were especially poignant this morning as my running is to help people and families just like my own and also many others.

So perhaps you can now see where some of my motivation comes from and why I am so passionate about the challenge and Macmillan's work.

Rest in Peace Anne. x

100/365 Whoop Whoop 100 days by Big Kev

100/365 Whoop Whoop 100 days by Big Kev

So its finally here, 100 days of running. So this blog is one of thanks.

Thank you to those who help me everyday be motivated. Thank you to those who listen to my tales and at least remain polite. Thank you to those who have parted with their hard earned cash. Thank you to Macmillan for supporting me and those who are close to me. Thank you to those who are no longer here to listen to me laugh and see me smile when I talk about the challenge, as you are the ones that have inspired me to keep going no matter what.

Today's run was also of note for only being the second run in the rain since the year started, again go figure. Just over 6 miles were covered making 465 in total and thanks to James and Marcus for the company along the way tonight.

Here is to the next 265 days.

All you support is and has been gratefully received at www.justgiving.com/kevin-caple

Day 296/365 by robgundry at Garmin Connect - Details
Well my last race before the London marathon on the 21st and I set out just to do a fast run  and not worry about my time. The weather was shit and raining but a good field of runners and as you can see from the data I got another pb. And who said its good to run everyday. It works for me

Nicky: Day 215 - 220 Australia

Nicky: Day 215 Airlie Beach, Australia by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Flew up to the Whitsunday Islands, Great Barrier Reef for a week on a catamaran with friends. Arrived late afternoon & whilst the lads sorted the boat & the girls stocked up the fridge (!) I trotted off. Very warm but a nice little run into Airlie.

Similar run to yesterdays before we sailed out on the boat.

Nicky: Day 217 Hamilton Island, Australia by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Sailed into the very posh Hamilton Island. Run was mainly around the marina area and around the little main roads - pretty but nothing special to report.

Nicky: Day 218 Hamilton Island, Australia by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Well a cyclone is heading our way so we are holed up in the marina. Very muggy but lots of heavy rain. Alf & I decided to head to explore some of the islands footpaths & hills. Tough old run - Alf cursing the hills but had the cloud not been so low the views would have been spectacular. Photo of me on top of one of the biggest  hills on the island. As you can see the view is non existent!

Nicky: Day 219 Hamilton Island, Australia by Nicky.C at Garmin Connect - Details

Still holed up on Hamilton because of the cyclone. I decided to make the most of it & headed out & did a 9miler - very tough & very hilly - check out the run profile. Did see a kangaroo though which was exciting.

Cyclone eased so were able to sail on & move islands today. We were tied to a bouy and not in a marina so my run meant being taken onto shore by zodiac - being dropped off for my run & then picked up again. Very rough stoney path to the top of a hill and back. Very very rough in fact - I actually twisted my ankle a bit too. View quite stunning though.

The trees are having sex!

Pollen is falling down like embers from a fire through the beam of my flashlight. All the cars are covered in a green layer of pollen - we are tracking in our houses - and the unfortunate allergy sufferers are sneezing it. Ahh, Spring.

Yippee... last day in double numbers. Big milestone tomorrow. It has been tough so far, weather wise and that 95% running on my own BUT I know I can do this and I will be raising a glass to myself on New Year's Eve :-).

99/365 A quick 5K in Gloucester by Big Kev

99/365 A quick 5K in Gloucester by Big Kev

Another good run today in and around our Gloucester office, its difficult to believe that tomorrow's the big 100! Considering the legs are still a bit tired not a bad time at all, the fitness levels must be going up.

Just the journey home and then a quite night me thinks. Being Bristol based tomorrow allows me to go to the club tomorrow night and enjoy day 100 with my fellow runners.

The fund raising has gone well to date and I am very touched by the support. I would now really start to get the word out to the masses as I think (and no jinxes intended) that I may be able to do this. So if I could ask all of you that read my blog to give me a like or even a share via facebook or twitter it would be appreciated. The just giving site gives you my reasons for running everyday, but in a nutshell its to help Macmillan provide the very best services to people that need it now. So if you can or feel inclined please have a look, as all donations are gratefully received.

Bring on the 100 days!

Pete Day 282 - Minimum lunchtime 3.3 miler by Pljrun

The day after Taunton and just a standard lunchtime run with slightly sore legs but nothing too much, the wind didn't help being in my face up the incline but hey another day done.

The latest...

Moved our boat this weekend and made the morning run different - and better. Saturday, went to get Zulu from Richard and Cathy's boat, they used to be right across the doc from us, and there was a bass tournament so I left Zu there because he runs without a leash and was worried about him getting hit by the trucks pulling in their boats. Sunday there was no traffic at the boat launch so I picked up Zu - nice warm up walk to Galileo from A dock and then back after the run.
Legs stiff this morning from all the single track we did on Saturday at the Ross Foundation - Ben came along with David and I and he had some troubles. It was his first single track riding. 25 miles on those tracks is very demanding on the legs - especially the quads. Sunday we took the bikes to the top of the pinnacle - overlooking the lake. That ride last year was the most difficult ride that we could do. This year our skills are much better and it provided good contrast for our skills then and now. Good times...

Pete Day 281 - Taunton Marathon by Pljrun

Well not as bad as I was expecting after my lead up to this run, not the best preparation but still managed 3:37:18, my half time was 1:48:18 so I nearly had a perfect split. Had a bad couple of miles at 19.5 and 24 so could have done better, but I was still pleased to be under 4 hours. Nearly perfect conditions apart from the head wind at the turn, but at least it was not a cold wind. Really enjoy this course one worth considering if you have never done it.

Jack: Day 291/365...Picking things up again.

After completing a gentle 40 minute run yesterday with Vicki, I decided to attempt a slightly longer run but maintaining my usual pace. I strapped up my ankle and made my way toward Giffnock. The run was fine and I felt fit. My ankle gave me no grief whatsoever which was a relief. I will be attempting another run of a similar distance tomorrow. If I am still feeling no bother from the ankle I might attempt a longer, slow run on Tuesday. Fingers crossed I will get a couple of long runs in before the end of the Easter holiday!

Jack: Day 290/365...75 days to go!

75 Days to go! Wow! It does not feel like long ago that I announce 100 days to go and I am gradually seeing the end of the challenge approaching! The next two and a half months will not be easy but definitely appear manageable. With the extra hours of daylight now well and truly here, I am finding it more manageable to motivate myself to run. The ever approaching Edinburgh Marathon is also getting closer and my desire to score a p.b. in this race is a huge motivation to get out and train. To mark this big day in my challenge, Vicki decided to come and run with me. She has recently been making a huge effort to get fit and be healthy and has been training hard in the gym and eating well. It was great to have some company on my run and it was awesome to see Vicki manage a full 5km run. We jogged around Pollok Park in order to get off road and it was nice running along past the Highland Cows and Pollok House. A really enjoyable run!
