Charles: Day 29/365 - A Christmas Cracker!

Day 29 - The snow has finally arrived in Edinburgh (and parts of Glasgow) and today is my first competitive run since taking up the challenge.

Well still stuffed with the cold but today was the jogScotland 5k Christmas Cracker around Strathclyde Coutry Park Loch. The run's a fairly flat 5k course and is a fun run for all abilities and people dress up in christmassy fancy dress. The run is very picturesque and a lovely setting that everybody thoroughly enjoys. Nobody expected the first 1k of the run to be into a head on freezing cold blizzard.

Strangely, I was looking forward to the run but thought that I would struggle with the chest cold but it wasn't as bad as I thought so I must be on the road to recovery, woohoo! I still didn't push myself as hard as I wanted to. I had originally wanted to a sub 25 minute 5k but my official time was 26 mins 42 secs and I am absolutely delighted with that considering the amount of running I'd done over the previous 28 days and being stuffed with the cold all week.

Today has proved to me that no matter how bad I feel physically or mentally, I can achieve whatever I want if I believe in my abilities and strength to get through the difficult days.

Looking forward to the running club tomorrow night and doing another 10k with the group (weather permitting)..

The details of my run can be found at Day 29/365 challenge

  1. The course should up my watch as 4.95km because we had to run through a wooded section so I had to continue running beyond the finish line :)
