Is there such a thing as a recovery run?
If today was to be an easy run to recover from yesterdays efforts of doing 10 miles then I felt worse. I was knackered and sweating buckets. I also had a physio appointment this morning to work on my tight ITB muscles so my legs were dead and I had no spring in my step. Strange thing is that I felt really good afterwards, except for a big blister that's appeared on my instep. I think I'll be sticking to the minimum 5k for the next couple of weeks until I get the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 10k & Half Marathon out the way :)

Ben Day 126 - Leigh Woods & Avon by ben_buckle at Garmin Connect - Details
Well I'll be a monkeys bum she said! - After nearly 200 days of using this Garmin and blog site I've finally figured out the fast way of transferring across my Garmin links into this blog! ie by doing it straight from Garmin itself rather than copying and pasting the link - arghh!! HOW much time have I wasted this year and last diligently copying link?!
oh I wish I'd seen the "Share" tab on Garmin activities page a bit earlier! - wonder how it knows to publish the run into the Run365 blog though?
Tonights run was stunning - started in a torrential downpour but I could see brilliant sunshine on the horizon so knew it wouldn't last - took my specs off (nowt worse than dried rain on specs!) for the run with ACDC still buzzing in my head from the drive to Leigh Woods..
lots of deep muddy puddles and mud everywhere from the torrent.. stuffed my right foot into a deep puddle and hit it funny - immediately felt wrong and went over on the ankle yelping with pain.. another few steps to slow down the pace and did the EXACT same thing again - I couldn't see in the rain and without my specs - thought it was all over - tears welling up and everything with the shock/pain... slowed right down and had to really suck it up.. running like a gimp for about 100m cursing myself for being so stupid - then just like on RAB MM last year when I buggered my ankle on the final descent when I stopped concentrating on the ground, it just calmed down and I could find a way to keep moving...
Run felt ace the whole way through - total mudfest - it was crazy (buy therefore all the more enjoyable).. dropped down through the steep woods following deer tracks to the river Avon - there was a great flow on the Avon tonight - the river is still tidal when it hits Bristol (It feeds off the River Severn which over at Clevedon about 5 miles from us has the 2nd highest tidal flow in the world - at srping tide, lowest to highest tide is 47 feet!!) (first in world is somewhere in China apparently) - probably feel it out to near Bath I guess.. apart from the ankle thing which is now sore of course, tonight was a great run.. felt good and strong aerobically and in the legs.. nice night for it..

Charles: Day 191/365 - Double run = 16.16km
I felt totally knackered today but was determined to do a double run. I did a lunchtime run at work which was just an 'ouch' session where I couldn't wait to get it over with. The evening run was with the running club and we did one too many hills because my legs were dead and I had nothing left in them. It didn't help that it was fairly mild today and I did both runs with a jacket on and sweated buckets so I was more than likely dehydrated and maybe even needed a little salt because I felt my legs starting to cramp up. I felt 100 times better after I got home and had some home made soup and some home made cottage pie that the lovely wife had cooked for me. In all a good days running where I completed a total of 16.16km today which amounts to 10.04 miles = not bad for an old man :)

Jack: Day 24/365
This morning I got up and decided to follow my new 5k route along the river again. It was a nice run despite the wind picking up on the second half of the loop and I enjoyed striding along beside the river. All in all it was a fairly straightforward run which I took pretty slowly because of my knee. It is nice having this route as an alternative to the park and this morning demonstrated to me that it is definitely a manageable route for running before school.

Day 185/365 Challenge by margcurtis13@hotmail.com at Garmin Connect - Details
I was pretty tired this Friday after a busy week at work and travelling for work. Had to force myself out the door and only did just over 2 miles. On Saturday Brad came with me on our usual 3 mile run around the block. Just about to go out for my Sunday run. It was Mother's day here today and I was very excited to be given a Garmin watch (FR610)!! However after much frustration I realized that I will not be able to use it with my iPhone or iPad to download any data and I cannot load the downloading software onto my work computer, so unfortunately I will have to take it back tomorrow :((. I thought I might have been able to do it with my Garmin iPhone adaptor, but the browser will not support the plug in. They say they are going to fix it but I will not risk it at this point. I guess it is a bit of a dance for both technologies to keep up with each other.

Benjour 125 Double header and new shoes
Marg and Charles were gracious enough to offer me a way out of my dilemma by suggesting I ran a double day - so here it is.
Ben Day 125 (1 of 2) - Cycle path
Ben Day 125 (2 of 2) - Bourton Combe
cracking day for it today - whilst in Cali I was wearing my Saucony road shoes and felt the foot twinges return... prior to that I'd been using off-road shoes since I've been trying to get off road more recently. Got around to thinking that it may well be time to change the shoes - I bought them about 12 months ago, but I guess with the mileage we're clocking up, even a little and often, still adds up. So I plunged in a bought a new pair of shoes - thought I'd try a different manufacturer and so bought some Brooks - Summon 3, and yes, I know they're a women's shoe! Thankfully (for everyone else) they're not pink (which I'd be comfortable with to be honest but..) they have a narrower fit which I prefer/need. A neutral shoe which is what I wanted, with plenty of forefoot support, so after a 5k in them the evening sun with Ollie alongside on his bike, I had no tendon inflammation pains to worry about.. happy days.
my second run of the evening was after Anusha went for hers - she's training for a triathlon at the moment, so we're quite a busy household in the evenings with the wife either running, swimming or cycling or sometimes two disciplines and then me running afterwards! I slipped on the fell shoes (trying to prepare my feet for the mountain marathons that start in a few weeks time!) and headed up Bourton Combe.. beautiful and quiet - nice and dry underfoot too, so the shoes stuck to the normally slippy rocky path like the proverbial to a blanket - reassuring and confident. I use Inov-8 x-talons which are nice and light (212g), but I see they've brought out an even lighter pair at 190 grammes... they profess to offer much more feel underfoot too - not surprised - there's almost nothing to them - may as well just paint a fellshoe sole onto the soles of your feet!
Anusha used my Garmin watch for the first time this evening - good to get some use out of an expensive bit of kit - hopefully she'll use it on the bike and swim too..

Charles: Day 189 & 190/365 - Weekend Warrior!?
At my dads in Fife for the weekend so did my usual 5k route on both days. It's funny how the garmin shows different distances and elevations when both runs are exactly the same stride for stride. The run on Saturday was in some warm(ish) sunshine and the run today was in freezing cold gale force winds and driving rain. I felt knackered both days and feel like I've got a chest and head cold coming on. I can't wait for the summer to arrive, or at least the time when I won't need my running jackets :)
