Karl: Day 59/365 - a speedy one by kfzeiner at Garmin Connect - Details

Yesterday I went out for a quick 11k run around Saughton Park, the Water of Leith Path, Colinton Dells and Craiglockhart Hill. An undulating and in part hilly off road route and I was very pleased that I could put some real pace into that run with 4:48 min/km pace. Legs feeling good.

Jack: Day 51/365

After the high of yesterday's personal best I settled for a steady 5km jog today. Having watched the opening matches of Euro 2012 last night with a few beverages I was worried that this morning would be a bit of an effort but fortunately I did not feel too bad! A nice lazy morning reading my book with a coffee meant that I did not head out until lunch time. I made my way to Kelvingrove Park and ran the usual loop which saw me pass a crowd setting up marquees for a small gig that would be taking place in the park today. I believe it was to mark the start of the West End Festival and was to feature Stevie Jackson of Belle and Sebastian. I made a note to check it out later on in the day but this never materialised! Having completed the loop in a fairly steady time I settled in for an awesome Sunday roast chicken and prepared for day two of the football! What better way to spend the day!

Jack: Day 50/365...A Personal Best!

Today marked my 50th day of the challenge and it feels like a good milestone. Fifty consecutive days of running   has left me feeling the fittest I have ever been. Waking up this morning I definitely felt fit but there was a slight element of doubt lingering in my mind. I was unsure whether the lack of rest days would leave my legs fatigued at all and thus have a negative impact on my speed. It was whilst considering this question that I decided to have another crack at Parkrun this week. Having taken the last month or so away from Parkrun it had been a while since I had attempted a fast run and so it would be interesting to see how I would fare. I got up early to have my standard 'pre-race' breakfast of porridge with banana, honey and flaxseed and made my way to Pollock Park. It was a warm day today and a big turnout ensured that the start was fairly congested. I managed to get away without too much hassle although I was slightly delayed in the starting of my Garmin. This meant that my watch would read my time as a second or two faster than my official time however there was not much I could do about it! With the knowledge that my previous attempt at this course had seen me record a P.B. of 17:43 I was aiming to come in as close to this time as possible. A strong start left me in third position after the first kilometre and I realised with a bit of a panic that I was ten seconds ahead of my previous P.B. When I completed the second kilometre in a similar split I realised that I was definitely on target for a new record, it was simply a matter of how much time I could shave off it! I completed the run in third place and my watch read 17:04 as I crossed the line. I was delighted with this as I knew that I had knocked a sizeable portion from my previous record however I was slightly disappointed when my official time came through at 17:10. Whilst this was a time which I would have been absolutely chuffed with prior to the race commencing (it was still a full 33 seconds faster than previous record!), I could not comprehend how my watch was a full 6 seconds slower than the official time. Nevermind! I am more than happy with my new personal best and I now have a good target to beat on my next attempt. I now have the daunting task ahead of me of hitting sub 17minutes. Bring it on!

Once again my garmin registered the distance as just below 5km and so I had a gentle jog back to my car to bring the garmin total up to 5k.

Charles: Day 218/365 - Glenrothes 10k

Another 10k race today and quite a tough hilly one at that. One good thing was that it was quite cool with a light wind so almost perfect running conditions, except for a small bit of drizzle about half way through. I completed the course in 54mins and I'm quite pleased with that considering I've been struggling with tired and heavy legs a for a few weeks now. The cold baths must be working after all :)

The details of the run can be found at Day 218/365 challenge

A few pics from today with me, Michelle and my dad (who's 75 years young and he followed the runners round on his bike)

Charles: Day 217/365 - Easy 5k the brekkie :)

Just an easy 5k from the house to Dalkieth and then into the Continental Cafe for a good hearty and unhealthy veggie burger and chips before heading over to my dads for the weekend and the Glenrothes 10k on Sunday.

Karl - Day 49-58/365 Cycle to Durham and other stuff

Fiona (my OH) and I cycled from Edinburgh to Durham over the Jubilee weekend leaving Saturday 4pm and arriving in Durham on Monday at 6pm. We stayed overnight in Broadmeadows YHA, Longtown and then Durham. Over the 3 days we covered just over 300km of cycling with 3200m of ascent. We managed to stay off nearly all the A roads and therefore had very little traffic. On the way we found lots of nice coffee shops for elevenses, lunch or afternoon tea and 1 was for breakfast. Weather was kind to us too. Fantastic ride. We packed very light and the only extra was some running kit for me to carry on with the challenge. Some pictures of the trip below.

Jack: Day 49/365...Olympic Torch Day

This morning I crawled out of my bed at 5:30am to make my way to CrossFit. The run was fairly miserable as I jogged along the river in the rain but it was nice to get the run completed nice and early to free up the rest of my day. At CrossFit we did a workout which focussed on the 'clean'. My battery on my Garmin was low on the run and I was unable to log my GPS for the home leg of the run. It stored the time but unfortunately it has not kept track of the distance covered. I ran back the same way that I ran out and so I know it would have been a leg of just approximately 2.76km meaning that my total covered today would be 5.5km

This evening I strolled into town to watch the Olympic torch make it's way to Glasgow. The streets were packed with people trying to catch a glimpse of the torch (or possibly just to see James McAvoy carrying it!). I also watched the opening of Euro 2012 which saw Greece tie with Poland. The match was a good one and hopefully will be the first of many exciting games of the competition. Loyalties demanded I put a few quid on England to bring home the trophy and at 15/1 I would be delighted if it were to happen. We may not be the best team in the competition but history has taught us that the best team do not always win!
