This evening I completed my usual 5k route to the CrossFit box and back again. Today's WOD was a good one for me consisting of 3 block runs and AMRAP squat clean thrusters in the remaining time.
This morning I had my first visit to the school which I will be working in next year. Really liked the look of it and the people in my department all seemed really nice. I came home with a fairly sizeable set of books to read and so will be working my way through these over the summer! Good times!

Jack: Day 47/365 continued...
Having already completed my 5k for today I did not really need to do any further outings however I decided to head to CrossFit for some training later on the evening and so completed another (almost!) 5 kilometres. As I had already logged the morning run on the blog I am adding this as a separate entry. It was a fairly uneventful run along the river to the CrossFit box and back.

Charles: Day 216/365 - Just another run
Not much to say about todays run except that I enjoyed it but still felt a bit heavy legged. Never mind, the Glenrothes 10k on Sunday is calling on me :)

Charles: Day 214 & 215 - Cold Baths!!
My legs have been so heavy during my runs that I've taken the advice from the guy who gives me a sports massage and that is to take a cold water bath each night until the tired legs disappear. He said that my heavy leg problem is due to a build up of too much lactic acid causing the tight muscles and the best thing to help (other than the massage) is to have at least a 3 minute cold bath. Even stretching after my runs aren't helping.
I started taking a 10 minute cold bath on day 214 and, although my legs were still tired, I was able to bounce along a bit on my toes rather than shuffle on my heels during day 215. I'll keep taking the baths because I have to admit that anything that helps is better than nothing because I'm really starting to feel this challenge in my legs.

Nicky: hi from Zambia
Thought I had better post to let you know I am still running, but cannot download my Garmin over here. As you know, I ran the 56m Comrades Ultra on Sunday. This was my fourth Comrades and also my best! The running every day certainly paid off. Full report witht download on Sunday. Have been in at a game lodge in Zambia since Monday, and due to the lodge being in a game reserve with roaming elephant, rhino, hippo and buffalo, my running route has been severely restricted to the small grounds of a 9 room lodge. Not that I am making excuses. Very stiff legs and sore toes have also limited me to a bit of a limp ( altho now recovered). When you see my downloads you will see how sporadic and random they are. Nor,ality - in more ways than one, will resume on Sunday!
Benjours 144-148 Scouting fest

We're running the B course if memory serves.
the LAMM
Spent the Queen's weekend ensconced at our Scout District Jamboree - it was fantastic, save for the fact I left my Garmin charging at home (!).. Classic British weather for the weekend - some sunshine, blustery, windy, lots of rain... to make it easier for the security guards I didn't keep running in and out of camp, I clocked laps around the big fields after dark after we'd finished serving 570 hungry mouths dinner both nights - the rain meant I didn't need a shower afterwards! Tweaked my right ankle again on the field. Feels like there is general weakness in the ankle now, which I'm hoping holds out for this weekends mountain fest..
Jamboree was amazing - Kayaking/Shooting/Swimming/Archery/Assault Courses/ Bungee/Zorbing/Segway courses yadayadayada all sorts of things going on - I was there on Sat and Sunday until Monday morning and was knackered by the time I left! Oliver my son is in Beavers and he had his first overnight stay away from mum and dad (I was camping on the same site, but I'm a scout leader, not a Beaver Leader :-) I think they finally made it to sleep about midnight - Wife collected him on Sunday morning and tells me he was asleep by 4pm, then woke up two hours later, crying that he wasn't allowed to stay at camp again that night - sign of a good camp I feel!

Jack: Day 45-47/365
The last few days I have been a bit lazy with the blog and have not been keeping it up to date! I have been doing the running however they have been very straightforward and uneventful. Two of my three runs of the week so far have simply involved running to and from CrossFit. Each of these has totalled just over the minimum 5k. The other run was simply a 5k which saw me jog to Festival Park and back. The park itself was completely empty when I reached it and I managed to complete some pull-ups in the play area! I spent this run listening to an old Plan B album. It is the album which I listened to when training for my boxing match a couple of years ago and I find it really good to run to. I think as I progress through this year I will need to invest in some new music to listen to on my runs. I will strive to shake things up a bit for the remainder of the weeks runs in order to keep things interesting! This week I have begun to make preparations for my holiday to South Africa in a couple of weeks. I am counting down the days till I will be running my 5k's around Cape Town! Exciting times!
