Nicky: Day 1 or is it Day 293! Dilemma!!!

Nicky: Day 1 (293) Knole Rd by knickerscat at Garmin Connect - Details

Oh No!  I am in a pickle. Had a bit of a time at work yesterday. Had to go to Birmingham for an all day meeting. Had planned my run at around 7:30 when I would get home. Arrived at 09:15 & mentioned to my colleagues that the last time I was at this hotel (around 3 years ago) , I ended up in an ambulance! Post lunch my face blew up like a balloon, wheezing, hives etc!!! Meeting was at the Hilton Metropole - usual typical bog standard buffet lunch: deep fried everything!! Low and behold around an hour or two after lunch, my eyes started swelling, followed by my lips & tonge. Hives on wrists & crook of arms, wheezing like a 20 a day smoker! Panic! Not me, but my colleagues. Was taken into local A&E & after 2 hrs was told I wasnt too drive. Also given steroids etc etc.
Went home with a colleague but dressed in a business suit with no Garmin & not arriving til gone 22:30, I couldnt get my 2miles in!!! I AM DEVASTATED, especially after 292 days of it!!!

Went for my usual boring old Knole Rd 2miles this afternoon but do I log this as DAY 1 (AAGH)? I am prepared to start all over as this is a 365 dayer & not a "miss a day here or there"!!!

Suggestions welcome. I will continue to log with both numbers and see what happens I think!

This piccie was taken around 5 or 6 hours after the swelling started, so it was actually greatly improved!! Quasimodo springs to mind!!!

  1. A dilemma indeed!?

What a horrible thing to have happened to you.

Due to the circumstances I would be more than happy to forgive you for missing a day but I think TC will have the final say as to whether or not you continue on from day 292.

As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't your fault and I think you've got a pretty damn good reason why you couldn't do a run. We have to expect a few situations throughout the year that were always going to affect our ability to run. You have been a real committed trooper to this challenge and we should perhaps build some rules that allow for emergency situations just like this.

You definitely have my full support for continuing on from day 292.

Also, I might be in a similiar situation next Monday because I've got a hospital day bed appointment that will require me having a sedative and I'm not sure when or what time I'll be able to do my run. The fear of missing a run is making me more nervous that the hospital appointment :(

  2. I also support sticking with your current days. It's not like you missed a few or that you really had a choice!!

  7. Cheers All! Have discussed it with Tony, & I know that by missing even 1 DAY (not of my doing), I would not have completed 365 days. For those of you who know me, I dont give up on things. So, I have decided that I am going to start from the beginning. Good job I am well into the routing & actually enjoying it! Lesson learned for us all though is: always always have running shoes & Garmin with you no matter where you are going!!! :D
