153/365 A lazy Sunday 3 miles by Big Kev
My weeks holiday is almost at an end and today was all about taking it easy. I don't really have lot to report about the run beyond the sheer number of cyclist now taking over the woods on a weekend and that the amount of inappropriate lycra on show is quite mind boggling.
My mind has been drawn over the last few days to how much my running has improved, because of what I believe is a direct response to running every day. At 42 I never expected to be improving upon PB's set 5 years ago or more and yet here I am, not only keeping up with, but in some instances beating better runners than myself.
I understand I am never going to be challenging for the top spots, age and genetics took care of that. I am also reminded that I started the challenge not to become quicker or run further as they were the reasons for me to look for something else to do in the first place. Yet here I find myself, 5 months in and going faster and longer than every before. I appreciate my fitness levels have increased and I have dropped a few pounds along the way, but where has the speed come from? Has it always been there, was it just hiding under the lethargic attitude towards runner, I am not quite sure yet, perhaps this is one for the coaches to ponder? What I am sure of though, is that something is right and I hope it continues for the rest of the challenge.
One final note, now were are in June and the halfway point of the challenge is in sight I will be asking that if you enjoy the blog that you share it far and wide. In a bid to start to increase the funds for Macmillan I understand I need to reach a wider audience. So please retweet, share on facebook or forward on the blog via email to as many friends as you can and please ask them to follow me.
