Nicky: Day 55 Burnham on Sea 1/2 marathon

Nicky: Day 55 Burnham on Sea Half Mara by knickerscat at Garmin Connect - Details

Well what can I say. I only decided this morning to run this race - it was all weather dependant!  Set clock, looked out window (sun) so decided to run!!! Well, to be honest I really wanted to do this race because I knew that if I achieved a PB for this half marathon (my last attempt of the year), I would have achieved a major running goal!  Wasnt expecting to though hence my non committment to run.

Only 2 of us from Langport Runners at the race so hurrah, already off to a good start! Max of 10 points towards our club championship!!
Desparatly wanted to run a half mara PB but legs still tired from the TB Ultra. Most miles I have run since that is 6 so with a heavy heart I resigned myself to do between 2 hrs & 2:05.

Gun went & I ran heavy legged around the boggy wet playing field & onto the roads for the reminder of the race (bar one field lap at end)! Started near the back of pack (normal for Nicky) & settled into a nice steady trot. Miles slipped by & I actually felt fantastic. Could see I was running sub 9min miles comfortably.

Mile 6 & my darn bladder wouldnt leave me alone, so quick pit stop in a field. Put foot & quickly passed the 3 ladies who overtook me whilst I stopped. They looked surprised!

Still felt fantastic & ran the whole race pretty steadily. Went across the finish line & to my utter & total surprise, not only did I achieve a PB but knocked an impressive 5 or so mins off my previous 1/2 mara time.  1:53:19.

Even more chuffed chuffed chuffed that I achieved a little secret target for 2012!  I have been running on & off and pretty slowly for around 20 years. Since I started this run every day challenge, I have felt stronger & faster.  This year I have achieved PB's for my 5km (Yeoviliton), 10km (Battle of Sedgemoor), 1/2 mara today (Burnham on Sea), Marathon (Taunton) & Ultra Marathon (Comrades 56m - on my 4th attempt). To say I am chuffed is a total understatement!  Big big smiles in the Chrascina household)  :D
