My Pyrenean holiday - Chemin de Liberte Days 70-76 by Sallycinn

Up really early, before sunrise and off to Toulouse airport. Back to UK UK.  Feel sad saying bye to everyone but feel good too. It was a wonderful holiday.  After a siesta, I went out for a short run.

Fnished walk yesterday so had a lovely comfy bed to sleep in last night.  Went for an early run with Bob (aka Jenny) before breakfast. Legs were stiff and hurt -  hard run despite only being a mile.  Going for a hike later.  All good stuff. :)

This was the most difficult day of the Pyrenean trek.  We had to hike down to a lake and then up to a ridge before reaching Spain. We were carrying our 13kg packs upwards and it was more mountaineering than running - in fact there was no running just hard hiking as it was impossible to run - too dangerous.  Had to push myself out of my comfort zone as haven't done much mountaineering and especially not with a heavy pack on my back.  Leader shouts down from above "concentrate - if you fall you'll die" - nice! Have to keep remembering that this is my holiday!  Keep trying to remember how the evacuees felt reaching Spain and freedom.

Day 3 of the Pyrenean trek. Today was a long hike to a high alttitude. I am now carrying all my things which is around 13 kgs. this includes sleeping bag, mat, food, clothes, toiletries etc. This is an amzing hike and really enjoying it. Don't really know where I am except it's around 3,000m and we just passed a plane crash from just after the 2nd World War. Very sad.

This was a fast walk which was Day 2 of the Chemin de Liberte. We hiked through some lovely forest and for this mile it was mostly down hill. We are carrying packs but only day packs at the moment. Could've run it but not really possible. If I tripped and hurt myself, I'd be buggered basically!

Stayed in a chateau last night in St Giron. This is where the Jews jumped off the train in order to escape the concentration camps.  They then started their long hike over the pyrenees to freedom in Spain.  We followed their route.  But before that, I had to do my run which was early.  Felt good though to get it done. :)

First day of holiday - still in UK though.  Went for my mile run with my pal Jerry who lives in Reigate. Dianne and I stayed over last night as we have a flight from Gatwick to Toulouse for our hiking holiday in the Pyrenees.  It was good to run with someone different and he made me go a bit faster than I do normally.
