This morning I was up bright and early for a trip to Parkrun when it was announced on Twitter that the event was cancelled. I decided to head out for my run early anyway and to try a longer, slow run. As I hit the pavement I realised that this run was going to be much slower than I had originally intended. The recent cold weather had left a thin layer of ice over most of the pavement and, at this time of the morning, they had not had much of a chance to thaw out. I made the decision to head towards Queen's Park as I figured the grass would be a more steady surface on which to run and therefore allow me to pick up some pace. It was as I was passing a family of five (and dog) that I stepped off of the path and onto the grass. I hit the deck spectacularly as my feet slid away from me. As I flapped helplessly to attempt a recovery I just made things worse and I ended up falling a second time before I had even recovered from the first fall! Sliding down a bank on my bum left me feeling incredibly embarrassed (and very muddy!) but fortunately I wasn't hurt in any way on the fall. I made for the park exit and decided to take me chances back on the pavements. The rest of the run was pretty slow as I was very wary of losing my footing. I covered 14km today and hope to start building up the mileage over the next few weeks.
