Day 2 started with a 2:30am wake up call as James and I headed out for our road trip. Today we drove the 800km from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, stopping off en route for the worlds highest bridge bungee at Bloukrans (216metres). The jump was incredible and one of the biggest adrenaline rushes of my life! We followed this with some treetops canopy swinging at Tsitsikamma which was an awesome way to spend the afternoon and we had a couple of very entertaining characters in our group! Once we arrived at our hostel we got our stuff together and hit the streets of Port Elizabeth for the second 5k of the holiday. As we had no idea where we were we decided to simply do laps of the block until my Garmin hit the 5k mark. A fairly simple run but we had plenty to talk about after the activities of the day!
Day 3 saw us up early and we hit the beach for our run. An absolute beauty of a beach it was amazing to run along. As we discussed our plan for the day (we had tickets to watch England Versus South Africa in the rugby that evening!) we strode past England coach Stuart Lancaster! He looked very focussed however so we decided not to interrupt him! Again we just did a simple 5k run along the beach and back but it was nice to be out in the sun! Once back at the hostel we got the BBQ fired up and a necked few bottles of Hunters Dry by the pool. We met a few South African fellas who offered to share a cab with us to the Stadium which was good as it was a lot further than we had anticipated! The match was a good one but ended in a draw. The highlight however was that we were sat next to the Second Row for the Jo'berg Lions! We got chatting to him and his girlfriend and they invited us back to their house for some more BBQ and drinks before heading to a bar. All in all it was an awesome evening which ended in a slightly drunk jog home in the rain as we realised that we were unable to flag down a taxi - which might have had something to do with our bright white England shirts!!
Day 4 and I was on my own. For some reason James and I both had absolutely pounding headaches this morning rendering James unable to come out on the jog. I managed to soldier on however and dragged myself out of bed for another jog along the beach. Feeling slightly worse for wear it was not a nice experience although I think it probably did me the world of good! I followed the same route as yesterday along the beach and back which ensured I covered my 5k. An absolutely amazing burger and a milkshake from 'Steers' got us back on track and after a bit of recovery time we got back in the car and made our way back along the coast to Cape Town.
