Jack: Back to the start...

After the disaster that was a missed day of running whilst I travelled to South Africa I have decided to turn down the chance of taking a forfeit in return for forgiving the skipped day. I had managed to complete sixty consecutive days of running in the build up to this downfall and it is unbelievably frustrating to think that all of those early morning runs which forced me out of my bed and into the harsh Glasgow rain will now count for nothing. The offer to continue with my total in return for a forfeit was very tempting however I think I knew from the moment that I missed a day that I would not feel as though I had truly completed the challenge and so I have decided to start again. Even though my previous runs will no longer count towards my challenge total, I know that I am now fitter than I was prior to commencing the challenge and the experience has shown me that the challenge is definitely manageable. My new start date will be 21st July 2012 and will begin in Cape Town on the first day of my holiday. I will maintain my original target of 5 kilometres every day and I know that next year when I have completed the challenge in it's entirety I will be glad that I started again. Whilst the first sixty days will inevitably be frustrating as I repeat all of the hard work of the last couple of months I know that it will be worth it in the end. In the words of Muhammad Ali: "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as champion".

  1. A very commendable decision and I admire you for it.

It's a shame that you're starting back at day 1 but I'm positive that I would have made the same decision that you have.

Enjoy your wee rest and I look forward to reading all about your running exploits soon :)

  2. Hi Jack! To be honest, if I had missed a day, I too would have started back at day one. Brave decision but the right one. Think how fit you will be by the end. :D
