365/365 End of the road 5K by Big Kev
Where do I start when summing up the finish? I suppose with the facts, first I have run a minimum of 5K a day every day of 2013 (1621 miles in total) and consumed 254,000 calories whilst running for over 207 hours. Miraculously, I have managed to do all of this outside consecutively for 365 days.
That means I have run for a whole year!
The journey, adventure and experience that has been the run 365 challenge has changed me, that's for sure and I believe for the better.
I will recap the year over the coming days as well as the fund raising final total, but for now here is a sub total. The amazing people who came along yesterday contributed an astounding £945.00. Add this to the current www.justgiving.com/kevin-caple total of £3,756.00 and we have reached £4,701.00 (without gift aid).
Thank you all.
So, back to yesterday. Perfect is the only way to describe it. I was surrounded by support and open adoration from the people that came along to run, walk and cheer. They made the atmosphere very special and have left me with memories I will never forget. I thank you all personally for making it that way.
BBC Radio Bristol and the Bristol Post continued to provide their support on the day for me and Macmillan and they covered it beautifully. I had the opportunity prior to the run to say a few words from the heart and we were fittingly able to applaud the loved ones that could not be with us. This then lead us all to the start line and the final 5K of 2013. It is a route I have now travelled many times and it was an excellent way to end. Even feeling tired as I was, I was also determined to run it properly. As we reached the hill the field had spread out and allowed me to make a mental picture of all of the family and friends that were also attempting the route. At this juncture I need to thank the guys who chose not to run past me (you know who you are) and allow me to lead my final run. When we reached the turn and doubled back on the field, I was able to thank almost everyone in between breaths and high-5's until I reached the end. It was then a case of making my way down the hill to the finish, where the walkers had now gathered and cheered me in, very touching. After gathering my thoughts and a quick interview with Radio Bristol I was able to thank everyone personal for turning up.
With the thank you's done it was off to the Dovecote pub for a few drinks and a wonderful gift from the girls. They have framed one of my Macmillan shirts and included a photograph from every month of the year on a background of my blog entries. Thank you.
The finer points of the day won't be lost on me, but it will take some time to sink in, especially considering what has been achieved.
I leave you all with a photo of the day from the Bristol Post and wish you all a very Happy New Year. I have achieved my goal, now its over to you.
Keep on running, you never know where it will get you.
